On Political Correctness
Charlton Heston once said, “Political correctness is tyranny with manners.” Heston succinctly elucidated the true intentions of so-called liberals, who incessantly demand we speak only within the confines of what is considered “PC.” Under the guise of tolerance, liberals are truly aiming to control you.
Yet, for some reason, many people leave the concept of what it means to be PC unexamined. For others, they are down right scared to speak what is on their mind for fear of offending others. Pussies. All of you.
The Coxswain Question
Am I, Coxswain, the only man left willing to unabashedly cuss, and spew derogatory comments at will? Am I the only person willing to fight censorship with demeaning insults and old fashioned bullying? The answer is “most likely.” Well, in the interest of maintaining the readership of various ethnic groups and sexual orientations, I’ll rely on my intellectual acumen. I wouldn’t want to “offend” anybody after all.
The Coxswain Contention
Despite my reluctance to mete out my mindful myriad of maleficent musings of monomania, I find it incumbent on myself to identify why I am more comfortable with such appraisals as opposed to the generic politically correct, holier-than-thou, prissy, pseudo-virtuous, albeit gutless coward. Following suit with the aforementioned Charlton Heston, political correctness should be taken for what it is: a spontaneous declaration that particular ideas, expressions and behavior, which were once legal, should be forbidden by law, and people who transgressed should be punished (i.e., communal tyranny). To what end? Simple, political correctness’ ultimate goal is to redefine social roles traditionally associated with masculinity and femininity, coupled with the desire to prevent recognition of differences among gender, religion, belief system, sexual orientation and nationality. All of which is accomplished under the guise of our own neurotic need to not offend one another, and accordingly be branded a bigot. So why am I, Colossal Coxswain immune to such neurosis? Well, my friends, you have been tricked beyond your comprehension. I must say, despite its treachery, this is a very clever trick indeed and deserves much acclaim for its infectious dissemination among the ranks of our society. Be that as it may, you’re shenanigans have no merit in the art of Guerilla Social Work.
When you think about it, it’s actually quite simple. These prodigal poltroons are actually promoting the fundamental ideals of totalitarianism, or the comprehensive and detailed control of all ideas, beliefs, and statements. However, this is difficult to see because they aren’t following the traditional tenets of totalitarianism by forcing you to conform to a single political organization, faction, or class domination (i.e., Stalin, Hitler). Political correctness, on the other hand, is coercing you to conform to more abstract concepts like diversity, ethnic-inclusiveness, and multiculturalism. Such feel good words…make me so happy I could vomit! At any rate, these “feel goods” and the inherent obscurity therein are the buffer that ultimately prevent you from seeing the politically correct agenda: control. These tyrannical charlatans are fundamentally no different than the Communist academics who sought to impose their Marxist views on German students in the 1920s. The big difference is they’re not promoting some sexy and provocative idea like Marxism or Communism, but rather, some tree-hugging, greenie, multi-culti, progressive garbage. Look at the differences in academia alone, it is now acceptable in many Universities to have courses on gender, homosexual and African American studies, which, in fact, encourage the mainstream public to become different to avoid criticism. How appealing is that?! Rather than have you conform to a tyrannical regime or organization to avoid social persecution, they want you to conform to a political idea…a perverse idea of never-ending diversification to avoid accountability whenever possible and never face social objection for your behaviors because they’re “culturally sanctioned”. The whole thing is nonsense, and the promoters of this hyperbole of slop are solely to blame.
The Coxswain Theoretical Tie-in
One thing is for sure, the majority of us don’t fully believe in the concept of political correctness. I say this because regardless of all the verbal sewage true liberals pour into our ears, we as a society are, in essence, largely immune (even though we don’t know it). The true liberal brain is quite a thing.
Rigorously fractured of any sense of individual responsibility and wrapped in a puss-infused membrane of guilt and self-blame, the liberal brain functions in a constant state of psychopathy. The Average Joe’s thought process, on the other hand, has not developed from full-fledged psychopathy, but rather utilizes a common strategy to hide his true feelings and promote his quasi-politically correct beliefs. Of course I am referring to reaction formation.
Reaction formation is an idea posited by Freud; a defense mechanism in which anxiety-producing or unacceptable emotions and impulses are mastered by exaggeration of the directly opposing tendency. In other words it is adopting the behavior that is the antithesis of the instinctual urge (e.g., acting as if one has deep sympathies for an oppressed group when the individual actually has significant prejudices against that group). In that line of thought, this begs the question “What’s really going on in that head of your’s buddy?”, when some self-righteous simpleton cries bigotry at even the mere reference to a stereotyped or prejudged behavior of an individual. More than likely, this person feels the same way, if not more prejudice toward that person. Otherwise, why would he be reacting in such a manner? It simply doesn’t pan out.
I think this is most relevant when it comes to stereotypical or even racist remarks. For the moment, let’s hypothetically paint the picture of a Caucasian male dressed in a stained and ripped wife-beater, denim cutoffs, wearing combat boots, sporting a mullet, clearly strung out on meth, and speaking nothing but redneck jargon. Be honest with yourself and think of the first thing that comes to mind. Now that you have that in mind, think about this individual being called a “Honky” or “White Trash” by a racial counterpart and ask yourself if you are truly upset. I’m going to take a wild guess, but I’m willing to bet that you’re not too upset, and for the most part agree with this characterization of this hypothetical person. Not to worry, because C. Coxswain agrees with you. So why such a small reaction? Well, for the most part, we have not been forced to believe by the above mentioned tyranny of political correctness that the Caucasian male is an oppressed individual, regardless of his circumstances. Therefore political correctness doesn’t apply in this situation. If one is to think of a Caucasian male as “White Trash” or a “Honky” they are completely justified in doing so and exempt from an anxiety producing response because you have not been conditioned through political correctness to feel the reaction formation that would normally be felt with such stereotypical remarks.
Now, for that same Caucasian male to call a Black female basketball player a “Nappy-headed hoe.” Anyone thinking about Imus??? It goes without saying that Imus opened up an entirely different can of worms. The social, emotional, and mental tyranny forced upon you by political correctness imposes anxiety-producing and unacceptable emotions that compel you to passionately speak out against such “derogatory” language, but to what end? Only to avoid the fact that you are actually think the exact same thing. Seriously, am I the only one around here with any balls? Take a look at the picture below and be honest with yourself. Is “nappy-headed hoe” not one of the first things that comes to mind? Don’t say it out loud…it’ll be our little secret.
The Coxswain Conclusion
The bottom line is the late Mr
. Heston couldn’t have been more correct in defining what political correctness actually is: tyranny. To go back to my theoretical tie-in with reaction formation, the tyranny of political correctness has gone beyond the social arena and transcended to tyranny of the mind. Your mind! Even those of you who respond to this post negatively will no doubt be putting your lack of ego strength and poor mental health on display for the rest of us to point and laugh.
Accept the fact that political correctness is forcing your hand and causing your use of this defense mechanism to avoid anxiety for simply being honest with yourself. Stay tuned for the Colossal Coxswain remedy. I look forward to the discourse!
