Sex Offenders: A Call to Action
The government has put your nieces, daughters, brothers, nephews, and wives at an increased risk for rape. I, C. Coxswain, am actively employing Guerilla Social Work tactics by using subversive measures to get our society’s needs realized. I will call on you, the reader, to carry out my call to action.
C. Coxswain: Societal Watchdog
Treatment for sexual offenders is proven to work. The government, however, has been cutting these services to save money. Perhaps the most egregious example is the top-down pressure put on caseworkers to remove juvenile sex offenders (JSO’s) from treatment, even when the therapist views the JSO as a risk to society. It is shown that offenders who start, but don’t complete treatment pose the highest risk of sexual re-offense. This is the dynamic currently perpetuated by Big Brother.
Very recently, a caseworker removed a JSO from a treatment facility despite the therapist’s firm opposition to the move. Despite the therapist and clinical team’s protest, the government swooped in and placed the JSO with a foster family. Within a few months, the untreated JSO sexually victimized the family’s child several times. This child may be resigned to a life of torment, pain, confusion, nightmares, trust problems, and mental health issues due to this perpetration.
Unfortunately, this isn’t going to be an isolated incident. Rather, it will be a recurring theme. Until there is a revolt or public outcry, this theme will repeat itself. The government will put your family at risk again and again by releasing untreated offenders, all in the name of cutting costs. What cost will you, the reader, allow your daughter to pay at the expense of the government’s reckless behavior?
The Coxswain Theoretical Tie-in
Right now, there is a balance between the government, treatment providers, and the media. There is nothing to upset that balance… yet. We are coasting by in a dangerously blissful balance.
In my profession, we use a framework to describe how families function as a system. It is aptly dubbed Systems Theory. The idea is families are dynamic, and have rules that govern how they act. Each family member is a part of the system. Families function a particular way due to each member’s personal influence on the system as a whole. When a family is set in its ways, it is said to be in a state of equilibrium. Families are prone, and actually strive to remain in equilibrium. When a family member leaves or changes their behavior, it throws the equilibrium of the family off and creates change (for positive or negative). This is going on right now at the societal level.
View the government, media, and treatment providers as a dysfunctional family. Despite being dysfunctional, we are in a state of equilibrium. The political influences between these “siblings” are powerful enough that equilibrium is maintained even though it is leading to a destructive output; rape. A new member, i.e. YOU, need to enter this fucked up family and throw it in to a state of disequilibrium. This will force change.
You are being asked to be the “Environmental Disturbance” listed in the graph above. Get it?
Coxswain’s Call to Action
How many children need to be raped for you to create disequilibrium in the “family”? Will your loved ones have to be sexually violated and brutally stripped of innocence before you speak up?
Write a letter to the editor. Call your senator. At the very least, spread the word. Your political views should not matter. Whether you are politically conservative or a pinko socialist, this issue effects you. Consider me, C. Coxswain, a contemporary Paul Revere rendered impotent within my dysfunctional family’s equilibrium. You, the reader, are Guerilla Social Workers fully capable of eliciting change.
